BIAS
Exposing Hidden Values through Facilitating Subjective Data Interpretation
Master Group Project // Team: Milou Weerts, Sam van der Horst, Rosa van der Veen // Coaches: prof. dr. ir. Pierre Lévy, Tom Djajadiningrat // Client: Telos & Municipality of Helmond
As data is becoming increasingly important for decision making in municipalities, this project questions what this development implies. With BIAS, the value of subjectivity in the act of data representation and data sharing is explored, to facilitate informed debate and constructive discussions. Can one’s subjectivity (values, background and role in society) be of value when interpreting data?
Reflection
My main take away from this semester is the value of bridging the 1st person perspective with the 3rd person perspective to be able to make sense of complex data structures. This project illustrated the richness of using ambiguous formats when designing for sense-making and exploring how subjectivity can play a bigger role in themes like data interpretation.
