Organisations in Transformation

Designing business offers through a co-creative design process

Master Individual Project Feb 2021 – Nov 2021 // Coach: prof. dr. ir. Caroline Hummels // Client: RISE Research Institutes of Sweden // Company Expert: Malin Johansson

This project investigated how to set up and design a transformational process that allows for the development of a business offer within the unit of Societal Transformation (a group within RISE Research Institutes of Sweden consisting of 22 employees).

The project aimed to create space for alternative ways of looking at business strategies, business development and personal development within an organisation and proposed ways to design and mediate a co-creative collective effort to create a feeling of belonging and empowerment in the work that is being done in the unit. The project resulted in workshop formats that can be re-used in different contexts when designing business offers, and an internal and external offer in the form of an interactive keynote presentation for the unit Societal Transformation. This keynote presentation has been used as a template for other units in RISE to develop and/or articulate their respective offers.

Reflection

This project has emphasised the importance of taking a personal perspective in transformation processes like these. It is about daring to see yourself as part of that transformation and being open about the inherent subjective nature of these practices. I think it is an interesting notion to consider, also on a broader level: to what extend can we ourselves, as researchers, ‘remove’ ourselves from our research, and take an objective approach to it? It might be interesting to play more with the notion of subjectivity and bias in research, to come back to a more value-based way of dealing with the global challenges that we are facing now.
