Facilitating Summer School

Facilitating Transforming Practices Summer School - Framtidsverkstad

RISE Project // 2019 // In collaboration with: Komatsu, Umeå Municipality, Polarbröd, Norrmejerier // Team: Danielle Magnussen and Rosa van der Veen

Framtidsverkstad is a summer job course for high school students between 16 and 18 years old. In Framtidsverkstad, students are employed by RISE, and work closely together with different companies in the region. Together they will work on developing proposals for navigating societal challenges that these companies have identified. In Framtidsverkstad I have guided and coached 19 students through a design process based on the method of Transforming Practices. The students worked on 4 different challenges framed by 4 different companies over the course of three weeks. I was in charge of designing the process, facilitating meetings with companies, setting up the challenges, coaching and guiding students as well as the organisation of the final presentations.

Reflection

In this project I developed teaching, coaching and facilitation skills, as well as planning, organising and setting up appropriate contexts for students to work in. I realized that I like coaching, and it sparked interest in educational settings and pedagogical philosophies.
